Hi, this is lab questions for biology. I’ve done half of them which I don’t know if they are right, and the other half, I had no clue. So can you please help out? Tell me if my answers are correct, and the answers to the other five questions. You don’t have to answer all of them, but ones you know for sure….

a)biological catalysts
b)agents that speed up cellular reactions
c)proteins
d)all of the above

2)enzymes function by
a)being consumed (used up) in the reaction
b)lowering the activation energy of a reaction
c) combining with otherwise toxic substances in the cell
d)adding heat to the cell to speed up the reaction

3)the substance that an enzyme combines with is
a)another enzyme
b)a cofactor
c)a coenzyme
d)the substrate

4)enzyme specificity refers to the
a)need for cofactors for some enzymes to function
b) face that enzymes catalyze one particular substrate or a small number of structurally similar substrates
c)effect of temperature on enzyme activity
d)effect of PH on enzyme activity

5)for every 10 degree celcius rise in temperature, the rate of most chemical reactions will
A)double
b)triple
c)increase by 100 times
d)stop

b)loses its requirement for a cofactor
c)forms an enzyme substrate complex
d)loses its ability to function

7)an enzyme may lose its ability to function because of
a)excessively high temperatures
b)a change in its three dimensional structure
c)a large change in the PH of the enviromnment
d)all of the above

8) PH is a measure of
a)an enzymen’s effectiveness
b)enzyme concentration
c)the hydrogen ion concentration
d)none of the above

9)catechol oxidase
a)is an enzyme found in potatoes
b)catalyzes the production of catechol
c)has as its substrate benzoquinone
d)is a substance that encourages the growth of microorganisms

10)the absorbance values used in the experiments of this exercise
a)are a consequence of production of benzoquinone

1. D - all of the above

2. Both B & D. They lower the amount of energy needed to get the reaction going and they also may produce heat. Not always, though. Sometimes it's just a chemical process that takes place.

3. C.

4. B. Enzymes are very specific

5. A. Double

6. D

7. D

8. C

9. B (I think)

10. I don't know what an absorbance value is - sorry

1)a metabolic pathway is a)a single, specific reaction that starts with one compound and ends up with another b)a sequence of chemical reactions that are part of the metabolic process c)a series of events that occur only in autotrophs d)all of the above ANSWER b)a sequence of chemical reactions that are part of the metabolic process 2)the “universal energy currency” of the cell is a)O2 b)C6H12O6 c)ATP d)H2O ANSWER I THINK IS C CORRECT! 3)products of aerobic respiration include a)glucose b)oxygen c)carbon dioxide d)H2O ANSWER c and d are both correct SUMMARY EQUATION: GLUCOSE + OXYGEN > ATP + WATER + CO2 4)”EFFICIENCY” of respiration pathway refers to the a)number of steps in the pathway b)amount of CO2produced relative to the amount of carbohydrate entering the pathway c)amount of H2O produced relative to the amount of carbohydrate entering the pathway d)amount of ATP energy produced relative to the energy content to the carbohydrate entering the pathway ANSWER I THINK IS D? CORRECT AGAIN!! 5)the purpose of the thermobarometer in a volumeter is to a)judge the amount of O2 evolved during respiration b)determine the volume changes as a result of respiration c)indicate oxygen consumption by germinating pea seed d)indicate volume changes resulting from changes in temperature of barometric pressure ANSWER d 6)phenol red is used in the experiments as a)an O2 indicator b)a CO2indicator c)a sugar indicator d)an enzyme I have no clue on this one… ANSWER b . CO2 is acidic in solution and phenol red is a pH indicator 7)as temperature rise, the body temperatures of ____ organisms rise. a)ectothermic b)endothermic c)autotrophic d)heterotrophic ANSWER a . Ectotherms are so called 'cold blooded' organisms.. 8)which of the following enzymes breaks down starch into glucose? a)kinase b)maltase c)fructose d)amylase ANSWER d then b. Amylase breaks starch down to maltose. Then maltase breaks down maltose to glucose. 9)Oxygen in necessary for life because a)photosyntehsis depends on it b)it serves as the final electron acceptor during aerobic respiration c)it is necessary for glycolysis d)of all of the above ANSWER b Oxygen is only required in the final stages of aerobic respiration to be the final hydrogen acceptor. The oxygen combines with the hydrogen to form the waste product water. 10)yeast cells undergoing alcoholic fermentation produce a)ATP b)ethanol c)CO2 d)all of the above ANSWER d Equation: GLUCOSE > ETHANOL + CO2 + 2ATP Hope this helps! Good luck!
