So i have my honors biology mid term tomorrow. im smart. really smart for my age, and i study soooo hard and so much. the problem is i have had very bad science teachers in the past and we learned absolutely nothing, and my teacher this year has assumed we've learned everything. so i guess i have 3 questions:
1. any test taking tips or studying tips?
2. what are some really important things i should review?
3. for the future do you having any tips in general for taking hard classes or biology??
thanks!!!!

Yes, I'm currently med student so I've had to go over this kind of stuff for the last 8 years.

The secret is find what works for you and develop your own strategy.

Things that I have tried in the past (they all work but to varying degrees):

- Cramming

- pre-reading every day and post-reading after class

- take super detailed notes

- take super un-detailed notes

- flashcards (awesome if you have the time to make them)

- Long periods of straight study (12-18 hour blocks)

- Short periods of study (30-1hr study, 1 hour break, 30-1hr study)

and my favorite/current technique:

- I pre-read and take notes from the text before every lecture

- after the lectures I will refine my notes and re-read the text

- I will make charts and diagrams to turn one page of text into something that I can explain by drawing out a simple picture

- and the most important is I meet every couple of days with my friends and we just PIMP (it means ask questions) each other and try to explain difficult concepts.

This takes a lot of time but it works the best and you can use it for your future classes...

As for tomorrow... good luck... that's a lot to learn

Test Taking Tips -

If you can't remember a certain little thing with only two possible answers, it is usually solvable through simple logic. So try to think about the simple mechanics and what SHOULD happen.

Stay calm.

Try to do the harder questions first.

To remember things; make memory synapses. This means to make any kind of connection you can think of, even if it doesn't make that much sense, for example, in a plant cell the vacuole holds excess nutrients, when I think of that it makes me think of a vacuum; because they sound similar and a vacuum holds all the dirt and crap it picks up. The more random connections you can make, the better.

Important Things to Review -

Vocabulary

The simple logic of what should happen.

Previous tests; your test may be similar to this one. Also check which things you got wrong or mixed up and try to make memory synapses for those.

Future Tips -

If you know what class you are going to take, then do some pre-prep for it. Look up vocabulary and figure out the basics. You could even make a notebook with vocabulary, diagrams, etc. I find doing this is even more fun than learning it in class. You don't necessarily have to remember everything, just kinda get the gist of everything and it will make it easier when you have to learn it.

1. Don't wait 'til the last moment to cram. Oops, too late.

2. Every topic you've covered this semester.

3.

a) Read your textbook.

b) Get another different textbook and read the chapters on the same topics you're covering. Sometimes a different textbook will explain better than the one your teacher is teaching out of.

c) Get some biology review books, such as the AP Biology test prep/review books (there are several to choose from). One I also liked was Cliffs Quickreview Biology.

seek for something of the words in an encyclopedia precise now. learn your notes and memorize them. locate one among your type friends tomarrow and ask them what you need to be attentive to for the attempt. as quickly as type starts off ask your instructor what you need to be attentive to. After it extremely is over tell him/her which you want extra rationalization. you additionally can must be paying extra interest or bypass into primary bio. Honors expects which you will parent many of the innovations out on your individual.

I had an honors bio exam today. Just relax you'll be fine. I don't know what you have covered but I'd go over genetics and Meiosis/mitosis.
