1 Short segments of newly synthesized DNA are joined into a continuous strand by _____.
A primase
B ligase
C helicase
D single-strand binding protein
E DNA polymerase
I think its B

2
After DNA replication is completed, _____.
A there are four double helices
B each new DNA double helix consists of one old DNA strand and one new DNA strand
C each new DNA double helix consists of two new strands
D one DNA double helix consists of two old strands and one DNA double helix consists of two new strands
E each of the four DNA strands consists of some old strand parts and some new strand parts
pretty sure its B

3
The first step in the replication of DNA is catalyzed by _____.
A ligase
B helicase
C single-strand binding protein
D primase
E DNA polymerase
pretty sure its D

4
The action of helicase creates _____.
A DNA fragments and replication bubbles
B replication forks and replication bubbles
C primers and DNA fragments
D DNA fragments and replication forks
E primers and replication bubbles
pretty sure its B

5
Why is the new DNA strand complementary to the 3' to 5' strands assembled in short segments?
A it is more efficient than assembling complete new strands
B only short DNA sequences can extend off the RNA primers
C the replication forks block the formation of longer strands
D DNA polymerase can assemble DNA only in the 3' to 5' direction
E DNA polymerase can assemble DNA only in the 5' to 3' direction
I got D

6
The synthesis of a new strand begins with the synthesis of a(n) _____.
A poly(A) tail
B short pieces of DNA
C single-strand binding protein
D Okazaki fragment
E RNA primer complementary to a preexisting DNA strand
Im sure its E

7
An old DNA strand is used as a _____ for the assembly of a new DNA strand.
A source of nucleotides
B model
C complement
D template
E primer
I think its D

8
Short segments of newly synthesized DNA are joined into a continuous strand by _____.
A single-strand binding protein
B helicase
C primase
D ligase
E DNA polymerase

9
After DNA replication is completed, _____.
A there are four double helices
B each new DNA double helix consists of one old DNA strand and one new DNA strand
C each new DNA double helix consists of two new strands
D each of the four DNA strands consists of some old strand parts and some new strand parts
E one DNA double helix consists of two old strands and one DNA double helix consists of two new strands

10
The action of helicase creates _____.
A primers and replication bubbles
B DNA fragments and replication bubbles
C replication forks and replication bubbles
D DNA fragments and replication forks
E primers and DNA fragments

11

A complement
B model
C template
D source of nucleotides
E primer

1. B. Correct.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okazaki_fragment

2. B. Correct.

3. D. Not sure about this one. I would have said Helicase, since the DNA first needs to be unbound.

4. B. I think this is correct.

5. The correct answer is E, but the question seems wrong. It should be "complementary to the 5' to 3' strand".

6. E. Probably correct.

7. D. correct

8. Same question as question 1.

9. Same question as question 2.

10. Same question as number 4 ? So answer C in this case.

11. Same question as question 5. Correct answer here is A.

12. Same question as question 7. Correct answer is C. template

When you post a question there are only so many people who will see it before it drops to a lower level. Understand that literally millions of people worldwide can see your question if they are online with Yahoo Answers but since there are tens of thousands of questions being asked the system has to cycle the questions thru very quickly. Your question will not sit and wait to be answered. It drops down lower and lower until it's just too far down to be seen. This doesn't mean your question isn't interesting it just has to cycle out of the way for newer questions to be asked. The more interesting a question is the more people will respond to it. Also if you ask a question keep it simple and try not to write a book because people really don't want to spend time answering if it takes too long to read your question. This is a example of how many questions are being asked: 1 2 3 4 5 6 (7) - Next > (296878 results) That's 296,878 total questions at the time I checked it. If you were to click say number 7 it will show a question and tell you something like 0 answers or 2 answers 6 minutes ago. Just keep asking and have fun!
