I heard from my science teacher there are about 1.3 Billion Brain cells in our brain. Everytime we read things, fro example, a content page, we lose a few hundred brain cells. And I would like to know if this is true, or somewhat true.
Please don't include ridiculous answers nor drag any diseases here, thanks.

Thats ridiculous !!!

In fact if you start reading lot of books your complexity of brain increases enormously. What took you 30minutes to read will take you only 15minutes if you practice reading. Do you think it is possible if you keep loosing your neurons like that !!

There are some communication points called as synapses in our brain by which neurons communicate with one another. These notify a persons IQ, understanding power, relating power etc. , it tells how well a person can comprehend things around him.The number of synapses increase if you read and think a lot.

I assure you , neurons dont die when you read so dont stop readind. They die only if they dont have proper oyxgen supply or nutrition or due to some diseases .

I think the brain cells are not dying instead neurons of the brain are shrinking. Reading? It sharpens our mind (a healthy practise)... but not killing our brain cells. Since fetus, the neuron is still leaving until human's senility. To prevent death, neuron constantly repair or remodel themselves. However, if the repair is slow down or stop the nerve cells cannot function, this is how it will die (this is the case when toxic (e.g. nicotine) enters the body system, especially in brain.

The ONLY cause of concern here. is your teacher dying rapidly of acute ignorance.

Neurons dont die from reading nor other physiological activity. (nor any other cell of the brain, such as glia or oligodendrocytes etc)

The calculus of the number of cells in the brain, is also wrong, because it varies with age, and also, with cranial capacity.

Reading, if anything, will enforce our understanding of abstract or objective images, and will make our brain pathways more able to learn, (the synapses or junctions between the used neurons will enforce learning)....and easier to understand mire quickly the concepts in the paragraph we focus our attention on....

Normmally, about 300,000 neurons die per year in the healthy human being, with no effect in intelligence nor capabilities for learning....

It would be interesting to ask you teacher where he or she read such nonsense,,,,,

Your teacher will be a long living human being according with his/her theory, because sincerely, if your teacher really is meaning what you are asking....he or she will have a lenghty and long life, because of.....not reading.,....Honest

Brain cell dont die because of reading. They die from dope, or lack of oxigene, or too much high adrenaline for too long period etc... Your science teacher is wrong.
