Any good college dictionary can give you the etymology of a word. A lot of scientific names come from Greek and Latin. I recommend Merriam Webster, but the Oxford Unabridged is a good source, too. But either way, expand your vocabulary. Having a good command of Greek and Latin roots will improve your spelling and give you a lot of insights into what many words in the English language mean, not just scientific terms.

Go to Wikipedia.com and type in whatever names you want to translate. Chances are very good it will give you every meaning.
